Natalie Spain is a Sydney-based contemporary artist. She is a former art teacher turned librarian who is currently focusing on her painting practice and full time parenting. Natalie completed her BVA (Fine Arts) in 2002 at Sydney College of the Arts and also holds a Master of Teaching and Master of Education (Teacher Librarianship). She has worked in many mediums including oils, watercolours, pens, ceramics, printmaking and photography. Her current specialty is acrylic painting.
Natalie’s painting practice investigates the emptiness and quietude of urban landscapes and the small spaces within them. She works with images of building facades, interiors and handmade stencils to create her landscapes and still life compositions.Her other primary investigation is the process of painting, patterns and colour theory.
Her inspirations include old architecture, travel, Post-Impressionism, Op Art, Pointillism, and travel photography.
