Russell Scott – ‘Crest Comet’

Auction Ended

Negative space features in many of my works; mainly to accentuate and dramatize the painting’s major feature. In this work it forms the magestic colours of outer space and, as a further contrast to the brilliant shine of the comet tail, I’ve left it unvarnished.

Born in Hastings, Victoria. Russell’s ancestry dates back to the first fleet and early settlers in Australia. He come from a line of convicts, soldiers and farmers.

Following fairly ordinary careers as a soldier, university administrator, businessman and English language teacher, Russell is now a full-time painter, or as my wife would say, “Artist in residence.” He paints each day in his studio, which also serves as a gallery. With his studio assistant, Mojo (his dog).

Russell is currently exploring the idea of suggestive portraiture and landscape. This being the idea of fluid minimalism attempting to represent the visually stimulating and complex imagery we are bombarded with on a daily basis.
